The Protestant Theological University (PThU)
PThU is an independent University for academic theological education and research, that provides training for the institutional and parish ministry for the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN).
The Protestant Theological University is located in Utrecht, Kampen and Leiden. A Seminary, located in Doorn, is also a component of the PThU.
The PThU, Protestant Theological University of the Netherlands, was founded on 1 January, 2007, as a result of the merging of three protestant theological institutions/universities in the Netherlands: the Theological Academic Institute (TAI) of the Protestant Church of the Netherlands with locations in Utrecht and Leiden, the Theological University Kampen (ThUK), and the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary (ELS) in Utrecht.
A significant number of influential theologians graduated from the Protestant Theological University, perhaps the most well known being Dr H. Bavinck (1854-1921), whose compendium of Dogmatics is still read all over the Reformed world.
The PThU is rooted in the European Reformed tradition. With this in mind, it participates in an ongoing dialogue between the various world religions and other fundamental life options and in the interaction between faith and culture. It offers an internationally and ecumenically orientated programme of theological study with explicit attention being paid to intercultural questions.
The administration office of the Protestant Theological University is located in Kampen.
